The Ballon d’or nominees list was released a few days back and the football world is filled with debates and thoughts on who the winner should be. In my opinion, this award belongs to Leo Messi this year. If you have any doubt on why he deserves this, the second slide has the answer. That’s his numbers in 2021. Adding the Uruguay game that happened recently, he has scored a staggering 38 goals and has made 14 assists in 47 games, winning the man of the match award 27 times ! He was the top scorer and assist maker in La Liga, and also the copa America mvp – being the top scorer and assist maker there as well. With incredible personal achievements like that, he also has two trophies under his belt – the Copa America and Copa del rey. Goals,Assists,trophies,Mvp awards, he’s got all bases covered and has had a better individual season than almost every other player. Now, I know that Lewandowski has had a great season too, and I also believe he should be awarded the 2020 Ballon d’or atleast this year, but as far as 2021 is concerned, it’s been Messi’s year, and he should be awarded his record – breaking 7th Ballon d’or.
